TYPICAL CLUB OUTINGS
This is a typical annual outings schedule for the club. Exact dates are selected by the trip leader based on the best fishing opportunities as well as weather and water conditions. We welcome beginning fly fishers to join us on outings. You will find our experienced fishers generous mentors. There is no better way to learn the craft of fly fishing than to fish with us on the water.

Surf Perch |
Various beaches on the Central and Santa Barbara coasts depending on conditions. We also catch corbina, striped bass and an occasional leopard shark. It's FUN!

Lower Kings River |
Below Pine Flat Reservior, DFW plants substantial number of trout in a catch and release section with special fishing regulations. It's an opportunity to trout fish in a river close to home before irrigation water blows it out for the summer.

FHL Bass and Bluegill |
Fort Hunter Liggett, a military base north of Paso Robles, issues permits for fishing a number of ponds on the reservation. We have a member leading the outings with intimate knowledge of the best times and places to try your hand at targeting bass and bluegill from a personal watercraft.

One Surf Fly Beach Classic |
The club participates in this unique event held on a beach somewhere in Central or Southern California. Particpants compete using a randomly drawn fly for prizes and bragging rights.

Santa Margarita Lake |
This is a beginner's outing to introduce new members to lake fishing from a personal watercraft led by members experienced in stillwater fishing for bass, crappie, perch and an occasional catfish. We top the day off with a picnic to enjoy the company of fellow stillwater flyfishing enthusiasts.

MAY |
American River Shad |
Shad migrate up the American to the first Dam just east of Sacramento. We give them a try every year the water conditions are OK.

JUNE/JULY |
Manzanita Lake |
Arguably the most beautiful Sierra lake, Manzanita Lake is nestled at the north entrance to Lassen Park east of Redding. Fish can be picky, but you get a chance to camp in a well managed campground and fish from a personal watercraft and from shore for good numbers of wild rainbow and brown trout. It almost doesn't get any better than this.

Lake Almanor |
A short distance southeast of Lassen Park is the town of Chester and the Lake Almanor basin. This is the spot to fish the famous Hex hatch, the world's largest mayfly. The hatch takes place here for about a month during June and July and draws really large brown and rainbow trout as well as huge smallmouth bass to the surface. Chester is surrounded by trophy trout streams and beautiful lakes that are equally inviting. This is a must do outing for new and experienced members alike.

Halibut Outing |
Annually halibut follow warming water into Port San Luis to spawn and it gives flyfishers a uique opportunity to catch them wading from shore or from personal watercraft just off shore.

AUGUST |
Halibut Outing and BBQ |
Annually, we have great fun on the beach in Avila targeting halibut as well as eating and drinking to our heart's content. It's an chance for club members to make plans for late Summer and Fall trips and enjoy each other's company.

SEPTEMBER |
Channel Island Deep Sea Trip |
A small group of members charter a seagoing boat for a for a muli-day trip around the Channel Islands to target a variety of species. There is always space available for one more.

Crowley and Mammoth Lakes and Owens River |
We participate in a fly fishing fair sponsored by the Southwest Council of the Federation of Fly Fishers in Bishop where we fish a variety of streams and lakes on the eastern side of the Sierra.

OCTOBER |
Kern River Outing |
The Kern River basin, just east of Bakersfield, is the closest trout stream to the Central Coast, making it a convenientan weekend venue. Guy Jeans, the local guide and fly shop owner teaches a class for members and takes participants onto his secret fishing holes.

Pyramid Lake |
This lake, 25 miles north of Reno, Nevada is owned by the Piute Indian Tribe who manages the foremost Lahontan cutthroat trout fishery in the U.S. Fish are regularly caught in the 10 to 20 lb. range. It's the only place you can fish just off shore atop step ladders to trophy trout.

NOVEMBER |
O'Neil Forebay for Stripers |
Water from the Delta flows from Northern California into O'Neil Forebay on its way to Southern California. The Forebay traps striped bass in a large empoundment that is accessible by personal watercraft as well as power boat. Members meet on the first evening to dine at Woolgrowers in Los Banos, one of the best Basque restaurants anywhere. You can eat enough in one sitting to fuel your entire weekend. It's a hoot.
